Antique Scanner looks at photos of an old object and tells you what it probably is. You upload up to five pictures and it reads the marks, materials and wear to estimate the maker, age, origin, materials and condition, along with an estimated market value range. It covers porcelain, silver, glass, pottery, furniture, watches, jewellery and other collectibles.

The photo advice is practical and makes a real difference to the result: include a full side view, the base, any maker's mark, hallmark or signature, and a close-up of damage or restoration. The site shows its confidence rather than just a guess. In one example a pottery mark lifts a finding from Likely to Identified, and a silver spoon's standard, maker and date letter are all read from its hallmarks. Sample results include a hand-painted vase with a market range of $120 to $200 and a 19th-century ladder-back chair with wear priced in.

Reports are private by default and there is no subscription. The first scan is free; after that the pricing page lists $3.98 for a single report (10 credits), $29.90 for 85 credits (about eight reports) and $59.90 for 190. Credits never expire, and paid scans skip the free queue and use a more advanced model.

Treat the value as a starting point. For anything that looks valuable, a specialist appraiser or auction house is still worth asking.
