Velstash Cache: managed Memcached hosting in Europe from EUR 12

About Velstash Cache

Velstash Cache is managed Memcached for developers and small teams who want a cache that simply works. You get a dedicated cache instance reachable over the network, with no cluster to tune, no capacity planning and no surprise egress charges. Instances run in Europe, at OVH in Gravelines, France and Hetzner in Helsinki, Finland, with more regions planned.

Price is the main argument. Velstash says it is much cheaper than AWS ElastiCache, Azure Cache and GCP Memorystore because it uses bare-metal servers and long-term capacity rather than paying retail cloud prices. It backs this with a worked comparison: its 8 GB plan at EUR 80 a month against about EUR 115 for a similar GCP Memorystore instance in Berlin, roughly 30 percent less, with the method and date of the check shown. There are no node-hour bills or VPC setup as on AWS.

Plans are sized by memory: EUR 12 a month for 500 MB, EUR 30 for 2 GB, EUR 50 for 4 GB, EUR 80 for 8 GB and EUR 130 for 16 GB, excluding VAT. Billing is prorated by the minute and you can cancel any time.

The free tier is a one-week trial of 100 MB with no card. It is meant for testing, not production: the instance and its data are deleted when the week ends, though you can start another.
